UPDATE: An 18 year old from Christian County is charged with
drug-induced homicide after a heroin overdose of a Christian County
man from earlier this month.
Angela McKinnon was in court Thursday
morning. She was arrested just before 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 29th. She
was arrested by Kincaid and Taylorville police with assistance from
members of the Central Illinois Enforcement Group in Taylorville.
On June 11th, 25-year old Charles
Stevens was found by a family member after overdosing on heroin.
Christian County Coroner Amy Winans says autopsy and toxicology results have
revealed that Stevens died as a result of heroin intoxication.
Prosecutors tell WAND News they have
text messages and phone-call records which connect McKinnon to the overdose.
McKinnon's bond is set at $1 million.
Kincaid police told WAND News McKinnon was known to them as a suspected drug
dealer.
Drug-induced homicide is a Class X
felony which could face up to 30 years in prison. Speaking after the hearing,
local law enforcement officials said they plan to investigate any future
overdose deaths in a similar way.
"In Christian County, what we're
doing is holding people accountable," said Kincaid police chief Dwayne
Wheeler. "There will be an investigation. Once the coroner rules that this
subject did die of intoxication, there will be an investigation done by several
agencies. We're all going to work as a team. We just don't want this to
happen."
"I guarantee you, we will do the
investigations," said Christian County Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp. "I
want the drug dealers to hear this. We will put you in jail, and you will go to
jail for a long time, because you're killing people and you're destroying
families here in Christian County."
